Elbphilharmonie - On the Harbour in Hamburg, Germany
Reporting back on the Concert last night at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg last night. It was great for several reasons. The venue, the performance and the energy of the crowd all contributed.
The venue itself is stunning, very bright, open, modern, beautiful and amazing views from the public spaces and also within the auditorium itself. Two escalators carry you up to the interior spaces, staircases and spots for a drink or snack. The views again, are just amazing, of the harbor area. Part of the impact comes from the fact that the whole venue is built on top of a loft building, so the heights are incredible. Inside the performance space, the weaving, open layered seating gives an amazing view of the stage from everywhere. And the views of the rest of the auditorium can be seen from everywhere as well.
The group of performers last night, 11 cellos and a mezzo soprano on some pieces, brought a fun, uplifting vibe into the space. I sat on podium seating, which is on the stage just behind the musicians, so I could see their physical motions and even how they communicated with each other, smiling and nodding and clearly enjoying themselves.
The excitement of the crowd also added to the fun vibe at Elbphilharmonie, 2 different people commented on how lucky we were to get tickets. It seems to sell out for every performance, it just opened in January of this year.
it was a really fun evening, I’ll definitely remember it as a highlight of this interesting city.
